We had an unbelievable snow here in Wedowee over the weekend, just as many did in Alabama and Georgia! The Birmingham News reported that Randolph County had up to 10 inches of snowfall and some areas reported 11 inches! It was absolutely beautiful, although it did come with widespread power outages. The area and the lake looked like a winter wonderland! We hope that you and your family were able to be home, safe and warm, enjoying a snow day or two!
We want to thank the folks at Alabama Power as well as the other power companies from across the state who worked during the big snowfall this weekend to restore power in our county as well as across the state! There were a huge amount of power outages due to downed trees and large branches causing some residence to be without power for over 40 hours. We really appreciate the effort to get everyone back online as quickly as they could!
We want to congratulate the Randolph County High School Tigers Varsity football team for their awesome season and for making it to the final game in the state playoffs! They’ve had an amazing season and we are so very proud of their accomplishments this year! Way to go Tigers!
We wanted to let everyone know that the Wedowee Christmas Parade was cancelled due to the snow over the weekend. Unfortunately, there are no plans to reschedule the parade at this time. Thanks to all those who put so much effort into planning the parade. We’ll look forward to next year’s parade!
Just a reminder that WM Grocery offers holiday meals and sides at a very reasonable price! If you are planning Christmas dinner at your home in Wedowee but don’t have time to cook, drop by and see what all they offer or call them at (256) 357-4914. They do have a deadline for ordering so don’t delay!
Congratulations go out to Marty and Lee Culver for taking first place in the “Deck your Dock” contest held by Hunter Bend subdivision! There was a tie for second place between Barry and Linda Smith and John and Diane Lunsford. There was also a tie for third place between Jenny Oxford and Eddie and Allison Pruitt. The judges said it was a difficult decision as everyone did such a great job! We had quite a few participants and hope that next year it will be even larger! Thanks to all who decorated their docks for the occasion! They were all beautiful and creative!
